» Garfield's own Bianca Giaever won Best Feature Story.  NSPA gives awards for News, Sports, Feature, Editorial/Opinion, and Diversity. Then, the Brasler Prize is chosen from the best of those categories.

Congrats Bianca on her award-winning feature on Nick Sears appearing in The Garfield Messenger Magazine's Spring 2007 issue.

» The National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) awarded the Garfield Messenger magazine staff the “Brasler Prize” for their in-depth story on Seattle's Raving scene. The Magazine was published in the 2005-2006 school year and appeared in the Seattle Times Sunday paper on April 2nd, 2006. The Brasler Prize includes a $1000 dollar award and is sometimes referred to as the “High School Pulitzer Prize.”

The featured writers on this story were Dean Carson, Molly Swenson, Becca Varon, Emily Danserau, Kyle Hargus, Zach Hartnett, as well as editor, Dana Wu, and photographer Meg Arai.
