1. Fallout 3
An intense post-apocalyptic world awaits in Fallout 3, an RPG that pits you against the mutated remnants of the old world. The game has an incredibly expansive world that allows the story to unfold differently every time you play.
2. Call of Duty 5: World at War
The multiplayer has endless replay value and well developed maps. The single player has a weak storyline, but is still highly entertaining. The slight flaws don’t detract much from the game, and the final product is very engaging.
3. FIFA 2009
The terrible AI level of past releases has increased dramatically, leaving very few moments where I feel screwed by the game. The players perform like professionals and the goalie no longer plays like an overzealous kindergartener.
4. Mirror’s Edge
This game is essentially first-person parkour, a concept that doesn’t lend itself to predictability. The story mode is very entertaining, and a series of difficult combat sections as well as a few “Where the hell do I go?” moments make the game far from easy. The graphics are stunning, although the cut scenes look like Esurance commercials.
5. Grand Theft Auto IV
The latest installment in the series of Grand Theft Auto games, which has been highly praised for its quality and sparked controversy due to its graphic nature. Endless fun ensues as a result of cruising the city and disturbing the peace, and the Godfather-esque story mode is also brilliant.
6. Rock Band 2
The sequel to the game that introduced the band concept to video gaming, Rock Band 2 unveils a host of new songs as well as some favorites from the original, and a polished look and feel.
7. Gears of War 2
One of the most anticipated games of all time, Gears of War 2 delivers non-stop action. Innovative guns, enemies, and game play make this one of the best third-person-shooters ever.
8. Crysis: Warhead
In a console age, Crysis stands out as one of the best PC games. Its original style includes a character with the ability to adapt to every situation. The graphics are breathtaking, and exceed the best console graphics by a mile.
9. Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead has some of the most exciting multiplayer game play ever. The game takes immense amounts of coordination and cooperation with teammates. Fighting off the zombie horde has never been more satisfying.
10. Pure
ATV racing could be a lot cooler. As it is, I’m pretty sure the only people who participate in real life live in the middle of Kentucky, and race them around their cousin-brother wedding ceremonies. Pure leaves that behind for adrenaline-filled thrill rides. The game focuses mainly on insane tricks.
